Elizabethan Charity Market. Every Tuesday Morning from May to end September, Totnes Elizabethan Society holds a small charity market. Some stallholders wear Elizabethan costume. A craft market is run at the same time. Both markets are held on the Civic Hall Forecourt, 9am to 3pm.

31 July 2008 Totnes Agricultural Show. Tel: 01548 821070. 2008 marks the 90th anniversary of this traditional show, probably the largest one day show of its kind in the South West. Over 170 classes of sheep cattle, horses, rabbits, poultry, rural skills. 150 trade stands, craft marquee. Children's entertainment. Showground opens about 8.30am www.totnesshow.com . Tickets in advance to personal visitors from Totnes Information Centre or at the gate on the day.
10 to 17August 2008 Totnes Carnival including Children's Fancy Dress, 5-a-Side Football, Picnic in the Park and Bingo. The Grand Procession on Saturday 16th August usually starts from Follaton House (South Hams District Council Offices) about 6pm.  Tel: 01803 863168
19 August 2008 The Orange Race. Tel: 01803 863168. In a series of races, contestants chase oranges down Totnes High Street and Fore Street.
5 to 14 September 2008

Totnes Festival. The third annual event, held to celebrate the unique heritage and culture of Totnes. Venues throughout town play host to local, national and international artists and practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines: music, arts and crafts, performance, literature, complementary therapies, to name just a few. www.totnesfestival.com

National Morris Ring Event. An extra-ordinary event in the Morris Calendar. Twenty or more Morris and other dance sides will come together to dance in a mass display and also at various venues around town over a two day celebration. Tel: 07912539009 www.dartingtonmorrismen.org.uk

11 to 14 September 2008 Heritage Open Days. A celebration of England's architecture and culture. Historic Totnes properties including Totnes Museum, The Guildhall, Totnes Castle (Saturday only) and Devonshire Collection of Period Costume (for Bogan House only, not the Collection) usually offer free admission at some point during the three day event. Book your place to see the fascinating 'decorated plaster ceilings' of Totnes or to attend the talk by Kate Ellis 'Murder in the South Hams'.  Bookings are taken at the Information Centre from August.
