There is no self-drive boat hire at Totnes. The public slipway is on the east side of the river, half a mile down stream for the Totnes Bridge. bowling facility at Borough Park Totnes. On the River Dart up river of Totnes Weir canoeing is restricted. The canoe
seasons lasts from 1st October to March 2007/8(31st January on lower reaches).

On the tidal section of the Dart, below Totnes Weir, there are no restrictions
on private canoeing. They form part of Sustrans NCN Route 2. There is a cycle path between Totnes and Dartington (a mainly off-road route about two miles in length) and another path between Totnes and Ashprington, also about 2 miles in length, one way. main Totnes Weir and freshwater above. Permits are needed for fishing between
Totnes and Buckfastleigh (Up-river), including the Weir pool. The Sea Trout Inn

Equestrian Centre at Wrangaton, South Brent 01364 73266 and Shilstone Rocks Riding and Trekking Centre 01364 621281. Borough Park is the main park, located in central Totnes. Children’s play equipment, tennis courts, the bowling green and the rugby club are there. The Skateboard Park was located in the park but is undergoing re-furbishment. Vire Island is also in the centre of Totnes (access from Totnes Bridge). On the island there are plenty of seats, open grassy areas, duck population and lovely river views, which make it a good picnic spot. There are riverside walks through Longmarsh, a meadow area beyond Steamer Quay on the east side of the river, and from Totnes to the Dartington Hall Estate. There is also a path from Totnes south to Ashprington (the first section of the Dart Valley Trail). Totnes has a thriving amateur rowing club whose HQ and slipway is on Steamer Quay Road. Club day is on most Sundays from 10.30am. Contact the clubhouse, evenings, on 01803 863772. Sailing is possible in the River Dart lower reaches and in the estuary. Dartmoor National Park (01822 890414) www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk and the South Devon AONB Unit (01803 861384) organise guided walks on special topics throughout the year. The AONB provide a selection of self-guided walks in a downloadable form from their website www.southdevonaonb.org.uk There is an accessible walk between Totnes and Dartington and an accompanying CD with commentary by local storyteller Clive Fairweather. The CD costs £5.99 and is available to buy from Totnes Information Centre or at Dartington Cider Press Centre. There is a braille linear map and 2 large print trail guides available on loan from the Information Centre or from RNIB Transcription Service at Ivybridge. It is also a major stopping point on the recently developed John Musgrave Trail, a 35 mile route from Torquay though South Devon countryside, finally concluding at Brixham.
